A book about the mountains in Norway, hiking and sexy times in a remote cabin? Sign me right up!!
What to say about this book? The good, the bad, and the ugly?
Let's get the ugly out of the way - the book suffers from too-shortness syndrome, or TSS. Yeah, I made that up; sue me. Seriously though, there wasn't enough book to really get a feeling for these two characters, nor was there enough book to sufficiently address the issues it raised.
The bad? Contrived situations (Folke having to rush home), unrealistic situations (what kind of doctor worries about payment for anti-venom if his patient would die otherwise?), and Alex's mama being not only entirely oblivious and seemingly uncaring, but then also frozen into inaction when her son is being assaulted in her own home? Or two characters thinking about falling in love when they haven't even exchanged last name, let alone addresses? Or that at 29, you're too old to have sex with a 19 year old? Or when being bitten by a viper (do they have non-poisonous vipers in Norway), you worry about ants?
But there was also good - I liked both characters. I liked how Alex was insecure (thanks to asshole Simon), and didn't like the fact that he was a ginger with freckles. He gave me the impression that he was still very immature to some extent, and not really sure of who he is. Folke, on the other hand, was a contrast to Alex, and I liked that he felt protective and a need to reassure this young man that the ginger locks and freckles were quite adorable.
The boysecksing was also well done, except for the part where lube didn't come into play much, but that's apparently something that's actually not unrealistic, so I wasn't too worried about that. The author did a great job keeping it real with the sexy times, and while they were scorching hot, they were also not drawn out and never felt porny.
So, this could have been a great book, if more time had been taken to develop the relationship a bit more, to give both of them a bit more time to get to know each other, and the issues it raised had been more fully addressed.
TT Kove can write, that's not in question here. I just wish there had been a bit more meat on these bones.
