While the story portrayed in the book was certainly fascinating, one must remember when it was written, when it happened and also that it was written by an American housewife who had no idea of the culture she had married into. Yes, her husband became unstable upon their arrival in his home country, and yes, the social restrictions that his culture put on women are foreign to her and make her feel resentful and repressed, but this story also happened at the height of the conflict between the US and Iran and that must be taken into consideration.One should not read this book and let the events color one's opinion and perspective of the people of Iran.
