ARC Review: Waiting For The Flood by Alexis Hall

Waiting for the Flood - Alexis Hall

My first foray into the writing of Alexis Hall was a complete success.

This book, a novella at that, was exquisitely written and painted a complete picture of a man (Edwin, very British at that) who allows himself to be defined by a failed relationship, has walls up 15 ft deep and is not willing to venture back into romance unless dragged kicking and screaming. Which Adam is only too willing to do.

We get a glimpse of a budding relationship set against rising flood waters, but we also get so much more in this little book. We get some profound insights into human nature, into what makes Edwin tick and Adam persists in his pursuit, and we get to see the extraordinary blossoming from what appear to be simple, ordinary people.

Not a traditional romance novel, but quite lovely. And Adam calling Edwin 'petal' - priceless.
